Autumn Leaves Bow Out in a Blaze of Glory at Kaloya Regional Park
Keloya Park, Lake Country, B.C., Canada
THE North American Indians tried to explain the mysterious beauty of autumn leaves. Their legend claimed that every autumn, hunters in the sky killed the Great Bear. His spilling blood, they said, splashed many leaves with red, while fat spattering from the hunter's kettle tinted others yellow.
JACK FROST gets credit for it, but he has nothing to do with it. The leaves do it, but they are forced into it. The trees themselves start it, but they are acting in self-defense. And behind all these mysterious happenings, it is divine wisdom that quietly directs the show. However it comes about, the performance dazzles the eye and stirs the heart of those who see it.
Only limited regions of the earth are blessed with the conditions that can produce these autumns dazzling displays. Many believe that it is in the eastern United States and southeastern Canada that the most spectacular displays of color occur. The greater diversity of tree varieties with red-coloration potential and ideal fall-weather conditions seem to work together for truly breathtaking results.
I'd like to share with you photos of a park where the leaves bow out in a blaze of glory every autumn; Kaloya Regional Park, Lake Country, British Columbia, Canada.
Autumn Leaves played by Roger Williams. - Piano
Play this beautiful melody while visiting me here. I have always loved this played by Roger Williams and have never heard anyone else play it as well.
Entrance Sign - Directions to the park
Kaloya is a well maintained large park located on 16061 Trask Road, Oyama, British Columbia, Canada, about a 20-30 minute drive from the City of Kelowna.
This family friendly park is located on the end of a pennisula that juts out into Kalamalka lake and if you are driving from Kelowna towards Vernon, you take Highway 97 North, turn right onto Oyama Road and turn left onto Trask Road to reach Kaloya Regional Park.
An autumn cluster - Kaloya Park
A walk in Kaloya Regional Park is always enjoyable but especially so in the autumn. I delight in watching autumn leaves flutter from the sky like golden butterflies. In the autumn it seems that God has clothed the park with many colors - colors that change from day to day, colors that come to life under our clear autumn skies.
Every park has it's beauty, but there are few parks as beautiful as Kaloya in the crispness of autumn. Year after year the leaves, although similar put on a different show. Here are a few photos taken in recent years that will give you some idea of what autumn brings to Lake Country's Kaloya Park.
Maple leaves turning red.
During autumn the waters reflect red, as maple leaves take on a change of costume.
A blanket of yellow leaves.
Who can help but be impressed by the gently moving golden leaves of the trees and the golden blanket spread on the park lawn.
Kaloya Park dressed in autumn colors.
Rich with autumn colors of chestnut brown, rusty red, and a glossy olive-green.
Autumn at Kaloya Regional Park - Beach scene.
We never fail to enjoy the autumn when the foliage of deciduous trees changes hues.
The marvels of nature.
Who can help but marvel at the wondrously beautiful autumn leaves AND the deer that enjoys the park with us!
A baby bear enjoys the park too!
Teddy Bear's Picnic - Just for fun listen to this.
One of the best loved novelty records of all time is "The Teddy Bears' Picnic", a song first recorded in the 1890s, and since then covered by virtually all major forces in the vocal music industry. The recording in this video is from the 1940s. Enjoy this delightful trip down Memory Lane of childhood magic.
Teddy Bear's Picnic - Children love this song!
I remember having this song on a record when I was a girl. Now it comes on a CD for youngsters to enjoy!
Cameras for the Bear family. - Watch out for them at Kaloya Park.
Many of these cameras are on sale to make way for the 2012 models. Personally, I'd rather get a 2011 model as they will have had all the bugs worked out of them by now.
I have compared prices of these models at our local shops and these prices are considerably lower.
I have chosen cameras for our local bear .. they're hibernating late this year so that they can take a few autumn photos of Kaloya Park. You might want to check out their cameras - they seem mighty pleased with them.
Shop - AMAZON?
I have been without a camera for quite a while and have been more than content for Will to take the photos as he does a wonderful job of it. As you can see from the photos presented here .. there are quite a few small hills in the Kaloya Park but the lake is always level. NOW, if I had taken the photo .. I'm not sure that I would have thought of that!
For some reason lately, I have been wanting to take pictures. Maybe it is because Will is not always with me when I see something that I think is spectacular, I don't know. Anyway, I have been shopping for a camera and will make my choice soon. (Of course, I will buy it through Amazon.)
Now for the question?
Honestly, would you buy your new camera through Amazon if you could get a better deal than locally?
Events in Kaloya Park - Teddybear picnics
The view in this park is so beautiful that many couples choose to get married in this park. There is a walking trail around the headland of the park, a playground, picnic area and a lily pond. In the autumn a chemist without equal, the Creator himself, makes magnificance a part of what is otherwise a routine exercise in survival for trees.
The autumn leaf displays in Kaloya draw people from the area as a yearly attraction. Bulletins are even issued describing the stage of coloration.
Traffic clogs the back roads of this normally sleepy countryside with those visitors the local people often call "leaf freaks." But these beauty lovers are rightly in awe of what they see.
Autumn quotes ... - poems and wise observations.
I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air. Hal Borland
Autumn is the eternal corrective. It is ripeness and color and a time of maturity; but it is also breadth, and depth, and distance. What man can stand with autumn on a hilltop and fail to see the span of his world and the meaning of the rolling hills that reach to the far horizon. Nathaniel Hawthorne
Autumn arrives, array'd in splendid meinVines, cluster'd full, add to the beauteous scene. And fruit-trees cloth'd profusely laden, nod, Complaint bowing to the fertile sod. Farmer's Almanac (1818)
It is only her in large portions of Canada that wonderous second wind, the Indian summer, attains its amplitude and heavenly perfection, .. the temperatures; the sunny haze; the mellow, rich delicate, almost flavoured air: Enough to live .. enough to merely be.
Walt Whitman, Diary in Canada
Then summer fades and passes and October comes. Will smell smoke then, and feel an unexpected sharpness, a thrill of nervousness, swift elation, a sense of sadness and departure. Thomas Wolfe
For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad. Edwin Way Teale
Ere, in the northern gale, The summer tresses of the trees are gone, The woods of Autumn, all around our vale, Have put their glory on. William Cullen Bryant, Autumn Woods
Autumn is the season for enjoying the fullness of life .. partaking of the harvest, sharing the harvest with others, and reinvesting and saving portions of the harvest for yet another season of growth. Denis Waitley
The hound of the autumn wind is slow; he loves to bask in the heat and sleep. Peter MacArthur, An Indian Wind Song
...for those whose favorite season is autumn with its days of cloudless sky, of spacious and clear, far-flung panoramas .. those who view nature with detachment, for whom nature's appeal is primarily pictorial, classicists as opposed to romanticists, perhaps. On such a day, one is usually excited, physically exhilarated, mentally stimulated. Only not much is left for the imagination. Charlton Ogburn, Jr.
Autumn is a second season when every leaf is a flower. Albert Camus
Heat and cold chase one another like pups playing .. yesterday ovenish, today cold storage. Oh, perfect in the pauses when the wind forgets and the sun remembers! Emily Carr

It is easy-breezy to see what a different frame or mat would look like on a photograph. Just choose the picture, then you will be given a large choice of frames and matting. Mix and match frames and mats until you have the effect you prefer.
Some of the photos featured on this lens were taken close to home, however, due to Will's travels, he is able to offer you a wide variety of scenes in many locations. Will has often spent days and days on his digital art during our vacations. I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I do. They are available for purchase if you so choose.
How to take an exceptional photo. - HELP!
I think that Will's photos are exceptional and I believe that a lot of this is because of a "trained" eye. Will has been interested in photography since his father gave him his first camera at a very young age. He has never been without one since. It is not an exaggeration to say that Will has thousands upon thousands of exceptional photographs.
Many of us are just starting to take pictures now, at a later age, and maybe it would be a good idea to read this book that has been written by Byran Peterson, a well-known photographer.
I often borrow books from the library but it would be nice to have this book on hand to refer to when needed.
